Sketch for a DSTRBO graffiti piece I never painted. I did the original drawing on a long drive down the west coast to LA from Vancouver sitting in the back of a van with two friends in late summer 1999. We were on tour doing live painting with some bands. We traveled all over Canada and the States for three months in that van, and there was a lot of time to sit in the back seat and doodle away. It was one of the first times I can remember that I could totally relax for full days with nothing to do but draw, without the background radiation of anxiety that I should be doing something else. This current moment reminds me a lot of that feeling, So I decided to revisit this sketch, that I’ve always liked, and give it a bit of a 2020 update. Also, the recent announcement by the US Navy and mainstream media that UFOs are officially recognized as an unexplained phenomenon would have thrilled ’99 me, I was deeply interested in that stuff back then, as a lot of 90s kids were. I especially like the crop circle signature.

I always considered wearing camouflage as a fashion statement to be kind of macho and silly. I designed this for a mural sixteen years ago, and just re-tooled it. It's meant to be a bit subtle.

“You see us as you want to see us—in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a farmboy…and an scoundrel…and a princess…a protocol droid…and a walking carpet. Does that answer your question?"
You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But, what we found out is that each one of us is: an Architect . . . and a Comedian . . . and a Nemesis . . . a Dancer . . . and a Pod.
