I designed and painted this mural in September and October of 2023 in the Saint-Léonard borough of Montreal, at the intersection of Jean-Talon and Lacordaire for MU @mumtl.
I was assisted by Alexis Levine, Zach Lebel-Cloutier, Zoe Gelfant and Alexia Babin.
The metro Blue Line is being extended further east, this mural is meant to celebrate the new Saint-Léonard station. I wanted to pay homage to the Italian heritage of the borough, so I repurposed the logos for St. Léonard, Ville de Montréal, and the Montréal Metro reimagined through the lens of Italian design movements popularized by designers like Massimo Vignelli, Eco Parisi, Ettore Vitale, the Italian design house Superstudio, and others. I also looked at the design sensibilities of the Montreal 1976 Olympics, which favoured bold compositions, large flat graphic shapes and bright colours.
The mural was done in collaboration with the STM, Ville de Montreal, Arrondissement de Saint-Léonard, SDC Jean-Talon Est, Benjamin Moore, Loutec, and Conseil des Arts de Montreal.

I designed and painted this mural in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood of Montreal with assistance from Edward Maloney for MU #mumtl this Fall. The mural was done in collaboration with Rupi Kaur, who provided the poem, and sponsored by Medecines Sans Frontieres . The work explores the theme of forced migration and the dangerous travel that many people undertake in search of safety and of a new life elsewhere.
